About Belfast, Maine Rotary Club
The Belfast Rotary Club is a service organization in Belfast, Maine - chartered on May 25, 1925.
The Belfast Rotary Club has approximately 70 members. We sponsor several community events every year. These include the following:
100 Fund – Needy children in Waldo County receive clothing (gloves, hats, coats, boots) plus Christmas gifts every December. A number of Rotary Santas and Elves distribute the gifts and clothing to approximately 140 children of all ages in Waldo County.
5K Road Races – The club sponsors two road races each year; the Kilted Canter in conjunction with the Belfast Celtic Celebration and the Bug Run in conjunction with the Belfast Harbor Fest.
Belfast Harbor Fest – A three-day event held the third weekend of August. Many activities: Art Auction, Vendor Sales, a pancake breakfast, BBQ Dinner, musical entertainment, the National Boat Building Competition, and a Cardboard Boat Race.
Golf Tournament – Every June the club sponsors a golf tournament. Local businesses contribute to the club in exchange for an advertising insert in the local paper promoting the tournament.
Pancake Breakfasts – The club runs two pancake breakfasts for the Belfast community at the Waldo County Shrine Club; one in the spring and again in the fall. Proceeds go to support local food cupboards. An additional Pancake Breakfast is held each year at the Belfast Harbor Fest.
Scholarships – The club provides over $70,000 in scholarships to deserving high school students in Waldo County.
Polio Walkathon – Each fall the club conducts a walk to support Rotary International's mission to eradicate Polio.
