President’s Message February 2017

Welcome to February everyone. The days are starting to get longer as we all look forward to an early
Spring. As we begin this month we turn our attention to our upcoming fundraisers the second half of
this Rotary year. We have already begun the pre-sales for the Valentine’s Day candy sale. It looks like it
will be another banner year. Thank you to Mary Mortier for coordinating this effort again this year.
Also, I would like to thank Dave and Joan Crabiel of the Chocolate Drop for their assistance in selection
and boxing of the chocolates. Mmmmmm! Mmmmmm! Good! Speaking of food..Before we know it
the next Pancake Breakfast and the golf fundraisers will be upon us. Many hands make light work.
Please, plan on being available to help. I am sure we will be hearing from both Paul Doody and Mary
Mortier as these fundraisers get closer.
Last month I talked about the success of the 100 Fund. I think it is worth another mention. The
committee is already hard at work, shopping and securing deals for next year. Thank you to the
committee for all of the year round hard work they do!
We are also in scholarship season. It is with great pleasure that I announce that we will once again be
offering $70,000 in service and leadership scholarships this year. Lee Woodward, Greg Dutch and the
scholarship committee have the fun but very difficult task of weeding through all of the tremendous
applications we get each year from area schools. The awards lunch meeting is always one for us to look
forward to attending.
Sadly, we recently lost a member of our family. Fellow Rotarian Paul Krohne. It is always with a heavy
heart that we say goodbye. Paul, we appreciate all you did for us while you were here and we will miss
you in Belfast. On a happier note, our membership continues to grow. Last month we welcomed 2 new
members. Gail Jones-Wilkerson and Tamara Sinagra. It is wonderful to have you both with us. We look
forward to getting to know you both better. Welcome to our Rotary family!
Strap in for a busy Spring. Get involved and keep inviting those guests (prospective members). Thank
you Rotarians for all you do!!
