Imagine Rotary!
“The Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones imagines a Rotary where members act to make their dreams become reality and make the most of their club experiences. During her year, Jones will focus on four presidential initiatives that Imagine Rotary: advancing our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI); creating a welcoming club experience; empowering girls; and expanding our reach.” - Presidential Initiatives
I feel that our club is well in alignment with the Initiatives that Jennifer Jones has set forth. Our Membership already has a diverse gender split, with 42% female members. We’re working to further diversify our club’s classifications to align with our local community, and you’ve elected me as the President! While I am not the first female President, I am the Youngest Female President of the Belfast Rotary Club. I am thankful to you, my fellow Rotarians, for entrusting me to lead the club for the next Rotary Year. I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve and I look forward to learning many new things through my service. I am appreciative of the club members who have offered to help and be available to guide me as I navigate this coming year. I feel well supported. I’d like to specifically thank our immediate past President, John Golden, for the countless hours and beers we’ve enjoyed over the past year while I was ramping up for this role. Your insight and friendship are invaluable, thank you!
July was fun, and a bit hectic at times while we shifted the way our program committee works. We were able to bring a program to the club each week, but it was a bit touch and go. Thankfully we now have the Vice President, Jason Trundy, leading the charge with support from club members helping to fill the calendar. The idea is that one person takes a month to line up four guest speakers. This will help us ensure a variety of programs and to share the workload of lining up speakers. Please let Jason know if you are able to take a month on, we would greatly appreciate it!
July’s programs:
July 6 - Deirdre Good shared her classification talk.
July 13 - Peter Garrett and William Fergusson discussed the Citizens Climate Lobby as it relates to the 4 way test.
July 20 - Kristine Wentworth shared her club goals for 2022-2023.
July 27 - Guy Hamlin introduced the club to a new Internship Program that is being developed at the Belfast Area High School.
