As I see my children off to school, the crisp morning air rolls in and I’ve taken a moment to reflect. I am feeling blessed. I have had an incredible summer, personally, professionally and through Rotary. I am thankful to be able to share glimpses of my life with our club through Happy Dollars and by bringing my kids to Rotary Events. My daughter, Emmy, absolutely loves coming to Lunch and saying “Hello” to the Board on our zoom calls. This past Wednesday when Matt O’Malia was presenting, and thanking his parents, John & Bev, for instilling great values into him, it really hit home for me. Through my work with Rotary I am helping to create a foundation for both my family, as well as our community. My service to our club is so much bigger than I ever anticipated, and the more time I spend as a member, the more I feel this. It’s truly incredible. I look forward to continuing to serve our community through Rotary.
This past month was jam packed for our club. The Evening by the Bay was incredible, Harbor Fest brought vibrancy to our coastal community and the cardboard boat races had Steam Boat Landing loaded with spectators. The Bug Run had nearly 100 runners participate. The Blueberry Pancake Breakfast was back. We had 4 teams participate in the Wooden Boat Building Competition. Our Club Assembly was on August 17th, followed by our District Governor, Denis Blouin on August 24th. I know I am feeling empowered by all of this activity and hope we can carry this energy into the winter months. We’ve got 100 Fund, and Polio activities coming along in the next few months. Stay tuned for details!
With all of this positive energy we have coming off from August, I challenge you to invite guests and “ghost members'' to lunch. Our District Governor, Denis Blouin, touched on Ghost Members, the folks who are paying their dues, but have not been present at our meetings. For those of you who meet this description and are reading this message, we miss you!
A great big thanks to all Belfast Rotarians who helped make the 15th Annual Belfast Harbor Fest the most successful ever! On Friday evening, we raised double our prior best to help the students at Waldo County Technical Center, we had a great National Boatbuilding Challenge and 16 boats participated in the Cardboard Boat challenge races. All this while we had a popular children’s activities area, fabulous music throughout the day, successful vendors, a sold out Blueberry Pancake Breakfast, over 100 runners in the “Bug Run” and a well-attended Beer Garden from Marshall’s Wharf.
We even sold a bunch of Tee shirts, Hats, Totes and Posters—both Saturday and Sunday.
