President’s Message October 2021
September was quiet compared to our activities during August with Harbor Fest.
We are continuing with our Zoom only meetings for the foreseeable future as the Covid-19 Delta Variant continues to infect people in Waldo County.
In September we heard from Kim Fleming as she gave her Classification Talk. We discovered that she has a remarkable Contact List on her phone (Gronk, Goose Gossage and a bunch of Red Sox players!).
Caroline King spoke about the remarkable work that the local American Red Cross does. Just a reminder – How old are your smoke detectors? How fresh are the batteries in your smoke detectors? Hopefully, they aren't in a drawer somewhere...
Chip Lagerbom spoke to us about his recent book, Maine to Cape Horn. I'm currently reading it and it is a fascinating story about life at sea before the Panama Canal.
On September 21st, Past President Richard Koralek had open heart surgery for a valve replacement. As of this writing, he's doing well and has been discharged from the hospital. It will be a while before we seem him at a Rotary meeting as he is recovering.
On September 22, Mary Alice McLean spoke to us about RSU 71's Strategic Goals, their COVID-19 Prevention Plan and how they're doing during the pandemic.
Also, on September 22, Orientation Training was held. Rob Flood, Kim Fleming, Russell Werkman, Kevin Kelley, and Kristine Wentworth are all now trained and ready to go!
On September 29, Donna Kelley of WCAP (and fellow Rotarian) spoke about WCAP's Neighbor to Neighbor program in which she outlined how WCAP and community organizations such as Rotary serve the community. She spoke specifically of the Thanksgiving and Christmas programs to help the disadvantaged.
The first day of Fall has passed – Happy Autumnal Equinox Everyone! Only 85 shopping days until Christmas.
Yours in Service,
John
