Well, I’ve completed my first month in office, only 11 months to go! July, so far, has been pretty wet, but not too hot. Let’s hope for good weather for our 14th Annual Harbor Fest August 14 & 15.
Welcome to our newest member, Robert Flood. In July, we said good-bye to a few members who no longer wish to be Rotarians.
On July 7, Megan Pinette gave a talk on the Belfast Museum and Historical Society’s activities. On July 14 had an interesting talk from Lane Sturtevant on the National Popular Vote Compact to insure that every vote counts for presidential candidates counts. On July 21, Chip Curry spoke on his activities with the State Legislature. On July 28, Kevin Kelley gave his Classification Talk on his naval and medical administration careers.
Etienne Perret, of the Camden West Bay Club visited the club on July 28. He spoke about a Lobster Bake he is sponsoring on August 21 for Paul Harris Fellows. $35 gets 1 1/4 lb. lobster, potato salad, coleslaw, Corn on the Cob and a drink. This is not a fund-raising event but a social gathering for like-minded Rotarians. It will be held at the picnic shelter at Camden Hills State Park. Attendance is limited to 60 vaccinated Rotarians and their guests. Contact: Etienne Perret 207-236-9696 office, 207-632-4057 mobile or EtiennePerret@gmail.com.
Harbor Fest - We really really need Boat Builders for the National Boat Building Challenge. Please talk to friends and relatives with carpentry skills and encourage their participation. A $100 fee gets them a 12 foot skiff.
We also need volunteers to help out on August 14 and 15. Contact Duke Marston at dukeclu@roadrunner.com if you can help out.
Also, Ed Varney still looking for help on the 5K Bug Run for August 14. Look for a sign-up sheet circulating at our Wednesday meetings.
Sue Beemer has put together a wonderful online auction site. Contact her at suebeemer48@gmail.com if you have something you’d like to donate. The auction will take place from 9:00AM on August 13 until 9:00 PM on August 15. The Auction website is charityauction.bid/belfastharborfest. Please bid early and often as this auction supports the Waldo County Pet Food Pantry.
This year, Harbor Fest will not be as large as in previous years, as some activities had to be curtailed or eliminated due to Covid-19. There will be a Pancake Breakfast, a 5K Bug Run, musical entertainment and, of course, the National Boat Building Challenge will be returning. There will be Food Trucks and various vendors. Children Activities include Corn Hole, Lifesize Jenga, a Plinko game, Mask Making, a Bubble Station and a Touch Tank. Jason Trundy is putting together a Touch-A-Truck exhibit with Covid-19 protocols. We’re hoping to have another Marine Swap, as well.
Coming up in August, we will have a visit from our new District Governor, Doug Curtis on August 4. On August 11, we will have a Club Assembly with reports from the chairs of various committees.
Yours in Service,
John
